This workshop was submitted on behalf of a community of practice for scholars seeking to advance education research grounded in equity (#AdvancingEquityinCER). To address the issue of equity in science, Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) needs to place more emphasis on the patterns of marginalization and minoritization preventing the educational system from broadening participation in science careers. However, when it comes to methodological choices, there is often a tension on whether quantitative methods are adequate to support the development of equitable practices in the field. Researchers often want to do equity work and quantiative work together but don't know where to start. In this workshop participants will be taught the principles of equity centered quantitative methods in three phases: 1) Principles of QuantCrit Research, 2) How to apply QuantCrit principles to already collected data, 3) How to design a study centered around Quant Crit principles. By the end of the workshop participants will have the basics of how to critically examine data, and apply these principles on their next research paper.
