This workshop will lead participants in activities that challenge them to design instructional materials for a broader understanding of science as human invention. The practitioner-developed JEDII framework supports Muhammad’s (2020) “cultivating genius” teaching disposition and equity framework. The JEDII framework was developed in response to growing shifts in classroom demographics, is the result of classroom-level action research over a five year period (2016 - 2021), and expects science educators to lead instruction in interdisciplinary ways. Participants will engage as learners in model lessons before leaving the workshop with a set of materials currently being developed as part of graduate and professional development programs for STEM educators.
