Increasing diversity and creating inclusive and equitable cultures in higher education has become an imperative for campuses and academic disciplines. Although many institutions are developing centralized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategic plans, much work on campuses also takes place at the department level. In the chemical sciences, new departmental leadership positions are emerging with the opportunity to activate change. This workshop will serve as a space for current and future departmental leaders in DEI to share strategies and resources for amplifying DEI in the research, teaching, and service missions of their academic communities. Workshop activities will focus on diversity strategic planning, identifying and engaging with stakeholder groups, and building faculty, student and staff engagement in promoting cultures of access, belonging and respect. Though cross-institutional conversations and networking will play an important role in this workshop, we strongly encourage participation of teams from the same institution who wish to develop plans for their specific institutional environment.
