Can digital tools foster collaborative work? We think so. This workshop will highlight tools and techniques for introductory and general chemistry to help students refine key concepts and develop skills through collaborative, active-learning activities. The workshop will be guided by Kevin Revell, a longtime advocate for active-learning techniques and the author of Introductory Chemistry and a soon-to-be-published General Chemistry curriculum. The workshop will showcase a suite of new digital tools designed for molecular visualization, guided inquiry (discovering concepts and relationships), and guided practice (developing key skills and techniques). These tools work on any laptop, tablet, or mobile device, and were designed with in-class activities in mind. In addition to tech tools, this workshop will highlight strategies for integrating active learning into day-to-day classroom activities and for building these activities into simple yet robust models for grading and assessment. The workshop is designed to be collaborative, and will provide you an opportunity to meet other faculty, share ideas, and brainstorm together to optimize your classroom experience.
